Reflecting Singapore’s unique heritage and geographical location, the Gallery will feature Singapore and Southeast Asian art in its long-term and special exhibitions. It will also work with leading museums worldwide to co-present Southeast Asian art in a wider context, positioning Singapore as a regional and international hub for the visual arts.
DBS Gallery presents Siapa Nama Kamu?: Art in Singapore since the 19th Century
"Siapa Nama Kamu?" means "What is your name?" The inaugural exhibition of the DBS Singapore Gallery poses this question, inviting visitors to consider how art may relate to issues of self and community, and what it means to look at Singapore through its art.
Drawing on close to 400 works, it explores the influences and practices that have shaped and transformed Singapore art. Each artwork provides insights into why and how an artist responded to his surroundings and circumstances. Taken as a whole, the wide range of artworks reflects the complexities involved in telling this extensive story.
UOB Southeast Asia Gallery presents Between Declarations and Dreams: Art of Southeast Asia since the 19th Century
If one thing characterises Southeast Asia, it is change. A meeting point for major civilisations, religions and colonial powers, it has experienced a tumultuous social and political history, marked by a complex relationship between local traditions and influences from the West.
Between Declarations and Dreams looks at Southeast Asian art’s continuous encounter with the new, and how artists negotiated meaning and expression as they grappled with change. A powerful exhibition, it displays close to 400 artworks, as well as rare books and artefacts.

Master rigger, Jim Barry, best known for his work on the ships featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, redesigned her 22 sail rig that is operated by over 200 ropes, each having a special place on their pin rail around the deck.

ROYAL ALBATROSS MAST CLIMB
This traditional tall ship boasts four masts that tower high above the waters of Sentosa. They support 22 sails all manually operated by 200+ ropes, just like they were from a bygone era. The Mast Climb is suitable for adults and children over 7 years old that are physically fit and looking to do something excitingly different! Great for that once-in-a-lifetime video/photo on top of a historic tall ship, an exhilarating activity for you at Resorts World Sentosa.
How these seamen used to do it in the olden days is using a harness or a bosun's chair together with a halyard and a winch to be hoisted up to the top. The other way is to secure themselves with a harness and climb up the sailing rig to reach the masthead.
Before ascenders came into the picture for traditional climbing, the ship's crew would have to tie friction knots for the same function of securing them. How friction knots work is that they allow the climber to ascend as long as the rope is slack. However, when pressure is applied, by pulling or if the climber falls, the knot will tighten and stop the climber from falling all the way through.
Nowadays, technology allows for motorised winches that could even allow for a solo climb, without the need to rely on a belayer.
For Royal Albatross, there is an industry attachment for students from the Institute of Technical Education to learn the ropes (literally) in being part of the crew on a tall ship. Part of this course includes learning the different aspects of the vessel and learning how to raise which sails and when.
Now, visitors to Sentosa get to take up this challenge to reach greater heights and reach 21 metres above sea level as they look upon the view beneath them. A reward for conquering a different trial unlike any other in the region.
If you are an explorer looking for adventure, a thrill-seeker, or maybe someone seeking to overcome their fear of heights, this is the activity for you waiting at Resorts World Sentosa.

The Aurora, Mother Nature’s very own celestial light show, has fascinated mankind for centuries. And for some travellers and stargazers, viewing auroras is one of the most highly desired experiences in life.
From the comfort of your theatre seat, journey to frigid Yellowknife, Canada, to join fellow travellers awaiting the elusive appearance of these beautiful dancing lights. ¬Learn about the science behind auroras - aurora borealis (the Northern Lights) and the aurora australis (the Southern Lights); about auroral colours, substorm, mythology and more!
Enjoy the fascinating and ethereal visual display of real-time images of auroras filmed with ultra-high sensitivity cameras. Pictures cannot fully capture auroras as they are; as an actual aurora would move faster as it becomes brighter. Come witness the beauty and grandeur of auroras!
Note:
